BELDING, MI - In a rubber matchup between the Frankenmuth Eagles and Freeland Falcons, the Eagles defense prowess secured a nine-point win at Belding High School.
Frankenmuth moves on to the regional final for the sixth time in the last seven years. Last year, the Falcons eliminated the Eagles, with Frankenmuth getting them back this season.
Freeland had a four-point lead after the first eight minutes. Senior Karie Keefer had nine in the frame, cashing a three.
With a slow shooting start, Frankenmuth utilized more of their inside game with senior Izzy Bernthal dropping eight points in the first half. The Falcons led by three entering halftime.
In the third quarter, the Eagles cut down on their turnovers and defensively clogged the lanes and anticipated passes. With a 15-7 advantage, first-year Macy Donovan was a difference maker with eight points, hitting two threes. Frankenmuth kept Keefer off the board in the quarter.
Entering the fourth quarter up five, the Eagles went on a 5-0 run through the first three minutes. Great passing set up a Grace Brenner triple in the early stages of the frame.
Down 10 and with the Eagles moving the ball well, Freeland entered foul mode with 4:30 to go. Frankenmuth down the stretch went 15-for-20 from the charity stripe. Donovan went 6-for-8 at the line.
The Falcons stifled by the Eagles matchup zone totaled 14 points in the fourth, Keefer accounting for nine. She finished with 23 points.

Rounding Things Out
The Freeland Falcons graduate five seniors, Keefer, Jenna Kowalski, Addie Seemann, Makayla Martinez-Hines, and Emma Northrup. Frankenmuth will play Portland in the regional final, Thursday, March 11th at 7 pm back at Belding High School.
