STANTON, MI - The Freeland Falcons secured their second regional championship in the last four years, tonight with a 69-49 win over the Portland Raiders at Central Montcalm High School.

Wilson Huckeby started the game strong, shooting the lights out. The junior scored 14 in the first quarter with four three-pointers. Freeland led by eight after the first eight minutes, behind seven team triples.
The second quarter was a defensive showcase by the Falcons. They held the Raiders to just nine points. Big man Tristan Comer netted six points and dominated on the glass. Junior Zander Wheatley, added to a bigger lineup look for Freeland, scoring a bucket and limiting inside looks. The Falcons led by 14 at the half.
In the third, Portland narrowed the deficit to 11 but could not cut it to a single-digit difference. The dagger came from Huckeby. A corner AND-1 three made with 13 seconds left in the third quarter that was drawn out of a timeout. Freeland had a 54-34 advantage into the fourth quarter.
The Falcons had seven different players contribute with junior Tucker Hileman scoring 13, junior Max Heyn had nine, and junior Connor Lasceski dropped eight. Tonight's full game archive is available here.
