Hawks Seize SVL's Top Spot, Topple Trojans 73-66

Saginaw, Mich. - The Heritage Hawks (13-3) handed the Saginaw Trojans (12-5) their first league loss of the season, a 73-66 triumph. Hawks senior Tyler Ode accumulated 18 points, six in the final minute from the free throw line.


It marked the first time in school history the Hawks have beaten the Trojans i their home gym.

Heritage sophomore Jaylin Cooper hit the shot of the game, an And-1 three with just over six minutes to go in the fourth quarter, making it a game-high 13-point lead. Cooper finished with 14 points.



The Trojans had to play catch up from there, getting it to five points with 1:30 to go.


A foul put Cooper to the free throw line with 70 seconds remaining, and he hit one of two, which kept it a two-possession game. A Saginaw High mid-range jumper rimmed out and was obtained by Tyler Ode. Ode went six for seven at the charity stripe securing the win. 


The Trojans' best quarter was the fourth with 23 points, but they were held to 21 through the second and third combined. Torrion "T.J." Stevenson Jr. paced SHS with 20 overall, half in the final quarter.

Rounding things out

The Hawks had four double-digit scorers. Ode, Cooper, as well as sophomores Joss Bradley and Noah Arnold, who both posted 11. 


The only Trojan besides Stevenson Jr. to amass dual digits was Fransco "Diggy" Lee Jr. with 10. 


The original game day was scheduled for January 23rd and moved due to inclement weather, which closed both schools for the day.

Heritage's next home game is tomorrow, Friday, February 9th, at home facing Flint Carman-Ainsworth, tip off at 7 p.m. Saginaw High heads to Davison on Saturday, February 10th, game time at 6 p.m.
