Taylor TD and Burns INT Hurls Heritage Past Lapeer 10-7

SAGINAW TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Down 7-3 at half, the Heritage Hawks (3-2) (1-2) put together a late scoring drive and a defensive shutout in a 10-7 win over the Lapeer Lightning (4-1) (2-1). It was Heritage's first in the SVL South and a homecoming victory.

Starting at their own 38 yard line with 2:04 remaining in the third quarter, a Grayson Byam 33-yard reception kicked off what would be a go-ahead scoring drive. After a first down pick up, the Hawks were faced with a 3rd and 12.


Junior Connor Grief rolled out, jumped and threw a ball to the back corner of the end zone into the hands of junior Daylin Taylor, a 14-yard reception to put Heritage ahead.


Lapeer on their final two drives, entered Heritage territory but came away with no points. An 11-play, 59 yard drive stalled out in the redzone. A 32-yard field goal attempted for the Lightning was blocked with 5:45 in the fourth quarter. Lapeer senior Talan Summer contributed 41 all-purpose yards on the drive.


After a Steven Rodriguez punt downed at the one by DeOndrae "DJ" Burns, Lapeer took over with under two minutes. The Lightning got it to the Hawks 42-yard line before a deflected pass was intercepted by DJ Burns to seal the victory.






Rounding Things Out

Connor Grief was also a threat on the ground rushing for 59 yards.
